Why every film gets its own ratio

Choosing the frame before choosing the lens.

The ratio is the first decision on every project. A tall Academy frame makes a person small in a big room; a wide Scope frame makes the land the subject.

I decide it on the recce, mark it in the monitor, and never change it in the edit.
